e-cadherin
expression is biochemical marker in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia
Abstract
The
original paper contains the results of immunohistochemical studies on
e-cadherin expression in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. To evaluate the
quantitative expression was used avidin-biotin peroxidase method. Cervical
intraepithelial neoplasias (CIN) are the lesions that for some years precede
invasive cervical cancer. CIN outcomes are variable in terms of regression and
progression rates. E-cadherin expression was tested in cervical tissues of CIN
patients (81 sample) and HPV-infected women with no CIN (10 samples).
Significant e-cadherin down-regulation was revealed in CIN3 samples in compare
to CIN1-2 and "normal" epithelium. The marker should be considered as a useful
tool in CIN grade assessment and individual outcome prognosis. These data open
the way for the creation of new pharmaceuticals based on the search for
compounds that affect the expression of e-cadherin.
Key words: CIN,
e-cadherin, progression markers, cervical cancer.
