Design
of the thermoelectric materials on a basis of the supramolecular clathrates
Abstract
The review provides the analysis of the
perspectives of creating novel thermoelectric materials. While general problems
associated with the search for new thermoelectric materials and prospects of
their industrial applications are briefly discussed, the design of such
materials on the base of supramolecular clathrates following the ideas of the
“phonon glass - electronic crystal” concept is the central topic of the paper.
Crystal and electronic structure and transport properties of the clathrates
based on the Group 14 elements are discussed, and the directions of their
functional property optimisation are highlighted.
