The velocity of chemical reactions
Table of content

Influence of pressure on the velocity of chemical reaction

Pressure influences the velocity of reactions strongly if gaseous substances participate the reaction because it directly determines their concentration.

In Mendeleyev - Claperone equation:

pV = nRT

Let's transpose V to the right part of equation, and RT - to the left and consider, that n/V = c:

p/RT = c

Pressure and molar concentration of gas are connected in direct ratio. Therefore in the law of mass actions we can insert p/RT instead of concentration.

influence of pressure

Unusually the velocity of the branched chain reactions depends on pressure.
