Abstract. We have recently undertaken a systematic study on the co-ordination ability of bis(4acyl-5-pyrazolones), toward tin(IV) and organotin(IV) asseptors. These represent an interesting family of powerful chelating O4-donor ligands which have been widely employed for they solvent extraction properties toward several first row transition M2+ ions and for the excellent fluorescence properties of their lanthanide metal compounds. In this communication we show how the X group between the -diketonato units can strongly influence the nuclearity and stereochemistry of tin compounds. In fact, when X = -CH2CH2- or 1,3-C6H4-, dinuclear six-co-ordinate tin derivatives afforded. When X = 1,2-C6H4-, complexes are mononuclear with five-co-ordinate tin centre, whereas for X = 1,4-C6H4- polynuclear derivatives are assumed, base on their insolubility in most of solvents.
